Regulatory Overview
Following the 2018 Constitutional Court ruling (Prince), the Cannabis for Private Purposes Act (signed May 28, 2024) codified the right of adults to use, possess, and cultivate cannabis in private. Draft regulations under the CPPA were published for public comment in February 2026, with finalization expected through 2026. A commercial adult-use market is not established; medical cannabis is regulated by SAHPRA.
